A town with a hundred-year tradition of tourism on the Croatian Riviera.
Lovran is a town with a long and diverse past, with a hundred-year-long tradition of tourism. Its name derives from the laurel vegetation native to the area. The settlement developed on Liburnia's coast along Učka's eastern slopes and maintains its medieval urban layout with defensive structures and charming Mediterranean courtyards.
Tourism flourished during the late 1800s and early 1900s. Since then, Lovran — together with Opatija — has been the most important locality on the famed Riviera. Notable Viennese architect Carl Seidel designed several villas from this era, now recognised as architectural heritage.
Today, Lovran combines a rich historical heritage, a hundred-year-old tradition of tourism, well-preserved nature, and a developed infrastructure for a truly sustainable and authentic travel experience.
The Lungomare is a twelve-kilometre coastal pathway connecting five localities: Lovran, Ika, Ičići, Opatija, and Volosko. Construction began in 1885 and was completed in 1889, when Opatija was declared a climatic spa.
This entirely car-free route showcases Mediterranean landscapes at their finest — the sea on one side, lush gardens and historic villas on the other. It's one of the most beloved walks on the entire Croatian coast.
Rising just behind Lovran, Učka Nature Park covers 146 km² and peaks at Vojak — 1,396 metres above sea level. The park is home to century-old chestnut forests, medicinal plants, and endemic flower species found nowhere else in the world.
With approximately 50 hiking trails and 8 mountain-biking routes covering over 200 kilometres, Učka is a paradise for outdoor lovers. The views from the summit over the Kvarner Gulf are simply unforgettable.
